A Golden Wedding Anniversary

My beloved clients were about to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary and wanted a truly memorable party at their country club! Jordi & CO was pleased to design, plan and coordinate their special milestone event.

We chose a color palette of champagnes, chocolate browns, and brilliant hues of pinks and reds. The sentimental invitations, which displayed a quote from a favorite song, set the tone for the evening, along photos of special moments in their lives.

A cocktail reception in the main lobby and terrace was simply accented, so as to enhance the gorgeous mountain and golf course views. Thoughtfully chosen libations were served, and party guests were enticed to reminisce by perusing their hosts' wedding albums.

The main event was in adjoining rooms—one for adults, and one for kids. A large doorway between the 2 spaces offered a watchful sight line; yet maintained intimacy. The adult dining room was dressed with gorgeous linens, custom created menus and place cards, and gold-framed table numbers and chargers. Glorious centerpieces were full of roses, peonies and orchids and the chandeliers oozed sophistication with strategic garlands in the same blooms. The kids' dining room sported festive balloons, and a hot air balloon centerpiece with promise for an adventurous night. A vintage-style popcorn machine was in constant use, while, DVDs chosen by "Nana" were shown on a flat screen television. A build-your-own-fort, toys, top hats and sunglasses encouraged photo ops and ensured the young ones rarely left "their room" all night!

Surprise tributes and a video montage from devoted children and grandchildren made this party's flow perfect (strategic planning assured the tributes were well placed, and our DJ pre-arranged perfect complimentary tunes).

The multi-tiered, custom anniversary cake unbelievable! It was in ivory and chocolate tones, and resembled a stack of elegantly wrapped gifts. Heartstrings were pulled when guests saw the couples' original wedding cake topper (lovingly preserved for 50 years!). Thoughtful cake details included gorgeous calligraphy that spelled out three generations of names—with simply "50" and "Family." Adult guests celebrating notable anniversaries and birthdays were presented with individual "smash cakes" on vintage pewter trays and grandkids received matching cake pops.

For this couple, love for family and friends surpasses concern for their own remarkable professional and charitable accomplishments. For us, this was a chance to reflect, in a party setting, a loving couple and family still going strong—and we cherished every minute!

A rare, behind-the-scenes look at some “prep” photos on installation day!
Visions from the Dutch Masters

When I received an inquiry about planning a birthday party themed around still life paintings of the Dutch Masters—for a wedding photographer—I knew the bar was preset at high! As soon as I entered her grand home in Pasadena, I envisioned it perfectly. The lighting was ambient and natural with sunlit tones reminiscent of old world paintings. A friendship was formed and her party date was set!

I excitedly pored over volumes of books about this historical period and plans became solidified. On installation day, we created the best party footprint by starting with an extensive interior rearrangment of the furnishings. Town & Country Event Rentals supplied the party basics. We decorated, draped and scaped with beautiful silk fabrics in colors that complemented her existing décor (leopard prints, Tiffany blue, and browns). Lavish Taylor + Taylor florals and a tall candelabra became the focal point of the buffet's main table. An oversize art book was set upon the table, opened to a specific page. Elements common to the Dutch Golden Age of the 17th century were selected predominantly from Jordi & CO's personally culled props; including china, faux books, copper and silver pieces, feathers, and an ink well and quill that were crafted for the occasion. It took only a quick glance for party guests to notice that this tablescape was a "living" recreation of the still life displayed in the open book! Similarly, the dining room hutch was prepped with antique gold linens and high cocktail rounds to serve as the dessert table.

The next day, my client deemed everything as having been "amazing" and the caterer reported that, "guests were 'wowed'!" It was both a challenge, and an honor to give life to a mastered still life. This was truly a unique and artistic endeavour!
